Great Build Quality and Performance for the Price.

I’ve been pretty impressed with ATTACK SHARK ever since I got one of their gamepads for my laptop. So naturally, when I came across the R98 Gaming Keyboard, I decided to give it a try, especially since my old keyboard was starting to wear out and had issues with sticking keys. One thing I want to mention upfront, although it doesn’t affect the product itself, is the packaging. I’ve tried quite a few keyboards, and most offer a nice presentation and unboxing experience. This one came in decent packaging, but it wasn’t the best. Mine also arrived with a dented corner, although the keyboard itself was well protected. Inside, you get the keyboard, several cables, a keycap puller, a manual, and a few stickers. One thing I really liked about my first ATTACK SHARK product was the premium coiled USB cable, and I’m glad they included one with this keyboard as well. Most keyboards I’ve tried that comes with a basic cable, even if it’s braided, so it’s nice to see them include something a little more premium. That said, this is a fully wired keyboard, and the cable is long enough to comfortably reach my desktop tower. The keyboard itself feels substantial and well-built. I got the full black model, which features a cool carbon-fiber flake-style pattern across the front. The back is more understated, with a fairly standard design. The keycaps use the usual Cherry-style stems, making them compatible with most aftermarket keycaps, which is great because I may swap them out in the future. This is a compact, 98-key-style layout that retains the number pad while squeezing the right side of the keyboard closer together. Coming from a traditional full-size keyboard, it took me some time to get used to the more compact layout.Typing on it is a pleasant experience, although there is a learning curve. Besides getting used to the compact layout, I also had to adjust to the lack of the familiar tactile feedback I’m used to from Cherry MX Brown switches. However, the Hall effect magnetic switches offer a noticeable improvement in responsiveness when gaming. The keyboard also produces a pleasantly muted “cluck” rather than the typical “clack” you hear from many mechanical keyboards. I didn’t pay much attention to the sound at first, but after a month of use, I’ve come to appreciate how satisfying it is to type on.The keyboard also features RGB lighting, and there’s a generous amount of it. I especially like the light bar running along the back, which reminds me of a similar design from another brand. The translucent keycaps allow the south-facing RGB lighting to shine through with a diffused glow rather than being overly harsh or glaring. If you enjoy RGB, there’s plenty to appreciate here. However, there are a couple of drawbacks. If you’re someone who needs to look at the keys while typing, the translucent keycaps and lighting can make the legends harder to see, especially when trying to locate specific keys. The RGB effects also preset, with limited customization compared with what you might find on some more premium keyboards.Overall, I’m really impressed with the R98. This is my first keyboard with Hall effect switches, and the improved responsiveness has been a noticeable benefit for gaming. It also types well once you get used to the compact layout and different switch feel. The carbon-fiber flake-style design looks great, and the RGB lighting adds plenty of personality, although I may eventually switch to pudding keycaps to change the look and tone down the lighting a bit. There’s also a volume scroll wheel, which works without any issues, although I wish it were a little larger. At around $70 at the time of writing, the R98 is competitively priced. Considering its solid build quality, Hall effect switches, premium coiled cable, and overall feature set, it’s hard to beat for the money. If you’re looking for a responsive gaming keyboard with a distinctive design.

I've been a fan of Attack Shark products as great "bang for the buck" - It's pretty impressive how good 'value' keyboards are these days. Unfortunately, the R98 HE is a bit of a step down from their usual products. It works great, but sound profile is somewhat mediocre. It's not terrible, but it's not as deep as it could be. A bit more sound dampening foam would likely help here. The Enter key also has slight pinging, but the Spacebar is nicely damped and sounds great. I also find the shine-through is a little weak on the Function keys and the number keys.On the plus side, the knob is excellent and feels great. I love this design, and wish more applications would adopt a horizontal knob design. The keyboard also works with QMK (qmk.top) out of the box without issue. The included coiled cable is also a nice touch.Overall, I like this keyboard. It's hefty, feels robust and looks pretty good. But the sound profile isn't up to par in my opinion, especially knowing how other 'budget' offerings from Attack Shark have sounded great.

One of the best keyboards I've owned

The fact that the keys are translucent is SUCH a cool touch because so much more light comes through the whole thing. I do wish you could still see the letter labels better when it's dark but I'm not sure exactly how they could achieve that. The volume control knob is nice and feels great to use and the keys feel great to press. It feels kind of like a hybrid between a typical mechanical keyboard and a non-mechanical one, it's hard to explain but it definitely feels great to type on. Noise-level is in the middle, too. Not too loud to wake anyone up but a satisfying level of clickity clack for sure!

really nice to use

This is a really nice keyboard. It feels solid and chunky, with a substantial construction and pleasant feel that I appreciate independently of the price. Typing is comfortable with the default settings, and I haven't needed to adjust the magnetic switch sensitivity for normal use.The web-based configuration works well. I can remap keys, adjust actuation and dead zones, change the polling rate and configure the lighting without installing separate software. Settings can be applied to individual keys, selected groups or everything at once. There is considerable flexibility here, and it is easy enough to use that I actually find it useful. The layout has a couple of quirks. There is no dedicated End key, and Delete sits offset from Backspace rather than directly above it. Those positions can interrupt established habits. Remapping gives me options, though, including the ability for me to assign End to Insert and moving Insert elsewhere. Keycaps can also be swapped where they fit.The printed manual is sparse and contains some confusing wording. I have largely ignored it because the web tool covers what I need much better.I am evaluating this primarily as a keyboard for everyday typing, so I did not really dig into verifying the advertised accuracy or latency figures. What I can say is that it feels good, types well and offers extensive control over its behavior. At under $70 with the coiled cable included, I am extremely impressed with the package.

Great gaming keyboard with awesome mechanical feel and responsiveness. Lots of extras.

This keyboard set has some weird extras included with it, but on the whole, it's a joy to type on. It's designed for gaming and has all the bells and whistles, including a super fast speed. I love the knob on the right hand side for adjusting volume - always more efficient than up and down buttons. The mechanical feel is a joy and while you can hear it more than a standard keyboard, that's expected with a mechanical option and it feels and sounds great. It's a sturdy, heavy weight board that stays in place and probably not one you'd be hauling around with a laptop. It's designed for a stationary desktop computer and really works well. It has so much functionality, you have to be sure to keep the notes and shortcuts handy. We taped the basics from the instruction manual to the bottom of the keyboard. The height can be adjusted with the feet on the bottom for an alternate angle, which is nice, depending on the height of your work surface. The included USB-A to USB-C cables make sense. The one with the four-pin specialty adapter in the middle is a bit baffling to us. The keyboard features bright green trim and lots of bright LED color variation options. Those are a bit distracting in our use, but just seem to be mostly personal preference. The functional speed and feel of the keyboard makes it stand out and we were happy to throw our older one out. It also includes a small tool for switching keycaps, which we're not really into, but I know that can be important for many gamers.

Wonder Mechanical Keyboard with a Great Sound and Feel

I have been a in the market for a new keyboard ATTACK SHARK R98 HE Wired RT 8K became my new daily driver. This is the first time I've picked up a mechanical keyboard but I've huge great things about them especially due to the responsiveness of the keys. The build quality is immediately obvious, with a solid, well made feel, heavy duty cables, and a top that looks sharp under the RGB lighting. The Hall Effect magnetic switches are the real standout. They are smooth and responsive with no dead zone, and because they are magnetic, I can adjust how far each key travels before it registers. Out of the box the actuation felt a little oversensitive for my typing style, catching stray keypresses, but dialing in the depth in the software fixed that completely. The 98% layout is a nice middle ground, giving me the numpad without eating up as much desk space as a full size board. That said, the Delete, Home, End, and Insert keys have all been shuffled to non standard positions, and it took real effort to adjust my muscle memory. Sound wise, the keyboard has a satisfying, slightly thunky feel. The coiled cable looks great and there is a straight cable included as an alternative for a cleaner setup. The only I've had so far is that randomly the keyboard will disconnect from my computer. I haven't had the issue with my old keyboard, and I'm using the same USB port, but when the keyboard disconnect, sometimes unplugging the keyboard and replugging it will fix the problem. However occasionally I'll have to do a full restart which is a pain to do when the keyboard isn't working.

I've been a mechanical keyboard person for a long time, and I bought this to replace a much-loved LED board that's about ten years old and finally showing it. It's my daily driver, not a gaming rig.First, the good. It feels solid and well made, the cables are heavy duty, and the marbled "ice" top is really nice to look at. The backlight bar is pretty and adjustable. The sound is lighter than my old blue-switch board but still satisfying, with a good mechanical feel.Out of the box, two things tripped me up, and both turned out to be fixable in the software. The keys ran a little over-sensitive for how I type, so I kept catching stray numbers on the top row (I apparently hit the 9 a lot). Because these are magnetic switches, you can set how far each key travels before it registers, so I made it a touch deeper and the accidental taps stopped. The other was the Delete key, which has been moved off its usual spot, now Page Down, up to the top row. That drove me up a wall until I remapped it back where my fingers expect it, and moved Print Screen onto F12 while I was in there. The lighting software is where I hit friction. There's a web version and a downloadable driver that work the same, with a decent variety of built-in settings. But your color choices seem to be: accept their schemes, or set one single color, or go fully custom. I just wanted to swap in a few of my own colors and couldn't find a middle ground. The AI part of the app also lists a pile of dynamic patterns, then tells you it can only apply static ones, which I confirmed. It was kind of annoying to see patterns you couldn't pick. The gaming depth options overwhelmed me at first, and I still haven't touched the rapid-trigger settings. But that same adjustability is what let me fix the sensitivity and put my keys back where I wanted them, so it isn't only for gamers. If you're a serious gamer, the depth is here. If you're a typist like me, it's a solid, good-looking board you can actually bend to fit how you work.High quality, no question, and now it's dialed in to me. I'm keeping it.

Wired-only hall effect board plagued by limitations and conflicting design

Attack Shark has the kinds of products that excite me with their potential but in the case of this R98HE, left me very disappointed. In the past year magnetic/hall effect keyboards have gone through a huge growth in the space with amazing evolution in features, newfound affordability and better design, but this shark dives so far below the surface it is the least favorite of my now growing fleet of dozens of this type of board. The most obvious is that this is wired-only, when most boards in 2026 have gone tri-mode; as an early adopter of the tech I know well that this is due to the power required to do the constant polling to monitor the switches at all times - but this has been overcome by other brands. Still, there are ways to leverage continuous power to its fullest is you are forcing users to be tied to a wire anyway. The most obvious which is to have robust lighting that includes a LIT REACTIVE mode where the board is illuminated at all times, and produces visual lighting effects when a key is pressed - this board can't do that, at least not out of the box. Even my MCHOSE Jet 75, my first HE keyboard obtained when this type of board first became affordable and was wired only understood this and had some of the most amazing lit reactive effects I've seen. This board has some of the most limited and unattractive lighting I've seen in any mechanical or HE keyboard and even the SPEED at which the effects are played is puzzlingly SLOW in how they animate as if this thing has an inferior chip in it or something. To top it off, while the ad copy says you can program key-driven lighting in its upper box bar, this seems to be a mistranslation and you can't actually do anything key related with it whatsoever which would have been a nice compromise if I could have programmed it to make the lightbox reactive while leaving the main keyboard on at all times, but there's no reactive mode for the lightbox. On the color variation I got, the plastic covering the lightbox is green colored and while it goes with the physical coloring of the keys, it contaminates the RGB lighting and makes everything green-tinted, affecting customization. As for the rest of the keyboard, I don't like the layout as it makes puzzling decisions and wastes a ton of space; there's at least 3 keys worth of space wasted at the top F keys row with a space between ESC and F1, and a giant nonfunctional logo sticker that doesn't even light up, yet there is a side wheel for volume/mute which allows for so much more key space - yet they squandered it on a nonfunctional logo instead of giving it more keys or a LCD screen. Worse yet, there is PgUp/PgDown but only HOME and no End, so they really could have used the extra space to give it that but they didn't and this is infuriating for a 98% board when I have even 75% boards that have all 4. There are a few things I do like about the keyboard in that it provides a right angle USB cable to reduce port wear which I appreciate, and also a spiral cord option that has a detachable aviator-style breakaway, something I rarely see. I also like the cute shark stickers they include which add personality to the brand and your customization options. I found the typing on the board to be smooth and responsive and I like the thocky-ness of the switches despite being a tactile main, I thought these sounded very nice. Unfortunately the other design choices hijack the good things that are here and I'd be hard-pressed to use this over other choices. For the $60-$70 asking price, its not horrible for a 98% hall effect board but I expect these should be MUCH cheaper if they aren't already due to the wired limitation, so maybe this could still be worthwhile if the price drops once tri mode HE keyboards cause these wired-only boards to become completely obsolete.

Surprisingly Premium HE Keyboard With Excellent Feel

The ATTACK SHARK R98 HE Wired RT 8K keyboard has turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve added to my desk in a while. There’s a lot to like here, and most of it becomes obvious the moment you pick it up. The weight is fantastic — far heavier than my previous board — and that heft gives it a planted, stable feel that keeps it from sliding around during use. It feels premium in a way many keyboards in this price range simply don’t.The size hits a perfect middle ground. It’s not a full‑size board, but it’s definitely larger and more comfortable than the mini keyboard I was using before (impact being that, like my mini, some keys are in weird places - delete and insert in particular here). It fits my desk layout without overwhelming it, giving me more usable key real estate while still keeping things tidy. This is my first hall‑effect keyboard, and I was genuinely surprised by how satisfying the key action is. I’m a longtime Cherry switch fan, but this board has a smooth, responsive feel that’s enjoyable for both typing and gaming. The cabling options are another thoughtful touch. The included coiled cable looks great and works well, though I’ll probably switch to the straight cable for a cleaner permanent setup. Having both options included is a nice bonus.Where the keyboard stumbles is in its software and RGB ecosystem. The lighting is functional but limited — only preset patterns, adjustable through the Attack Shark software. It doesn’t integrate with SignalRGB or any other unified RGB platform, which is a big annoyance for me since the rest of my setup is synced. The other drawback is that all customization requires the OEM software or their web app (additional drivers and permissions). It works surprisingly well, but it means no QMK, VIA, or other open firmware tools. While not a show stopper, I am surprised by the number of premium keyboards that don't aim for wider ecosystem compatibility from the onset.Despite those limitations, the keyboard itself is excellent. It looks great, feels great, and types beautifully. Even with the RGB and software constraints, it’s likely to become my long‑term daily driver. If the ecosystem were more open, this would easily be a 5‑star board — but as it stands, it’s a very strong 4‑star keyboard with outstanding hardware and a few software quirks.
