Wonder Mechanical Keyboard with a Great Sound and Feel

I have been a in the market for a new keyboard ATTACK SHARK R98 HE Wired RT 8K became my new daily driver. This is the first time I've picked up a mechanical keyboard but I've huge great things about them especially due to the responsiveness of the keys. The build quality is immediately obvious, with a solid, well made feel, heavy duty cables, and a top that looks sharp under the RGB lighting. The Hall Effect magnetic switches are the real standout. They are smooth and responsive with no dead zone, and because they are magnetic, I can adjust how far each key travels before it registers. Out of the box the actuation felt a little oversensitive for my typing style, catching stray keypresses, but dialing in the depth in the software fixed that completely. The 98% layout is a nice middle ground, giving me the numpad without eating up as much desk space as a full size board. That said, the Delete, Home, End, and Insert keys have all been shuffled to non standard positions, and it took real effort to adjust my muscle memory. Sound wise, the keyboard has a satisfying, slightly thunky feel. The coiled cable looks great and there is a straight cable included as an alternative for a cleaner setup. The only I've had so far is that randomly the keyboard will disconnect from my computer. I haven't had the issue with my old keyboard, and I'm using the same USB port, but when the keyboard disconnect, sometimes unplugging the keyboard and replugging it will fix the problem. However occasionally I'll have to do a full restart which is a pain to do when the keyboard isn't working.

I've been a mechanical keyboard person for a long time, and I bought this to replace a much-loved LED board that's about ten years old and finally showing it. It's my daily driver, not a gaming rig.First, the good. It feels solid and well made, the cables are heavy duty, and the marbled "ice" top is really nice to look at. The backlight bar is pretty and adjustable. The sound is lighter than my old blue-switch board but still satisfying, with a good mechanical feel.Out of the box, two things tripped me up, and both turned out to be fixable in the software. The keys ran a little over-sensitive for how I type, so I kept catching stray numbers on the top row (I apparently hit the 9 a lot). Because these are magnetic switches, you can set how far each key travels before it registers, so I made it a touch deeper and the accidental taps stopped. The other was the Delete key, which has been moved off its usual spot, now Page Down, up to the top row. That drove me up a wall until I remapped it back where my fingers expect it, and moved Print Screen onto F12 while I was in there. The lighting software is where I hit friction. There's a web version and a downloadable driver that work the same, with a decent variety of built-in settings. But your color choices seem to be: accept their schemes, or set one single color, or go fully custom. I just wanted to swap in a few of my own colors and couldn't find a middle ground. The AI part of the app also lists a pile of dynamic patterns, then tells you it can only apply static ones, which I confirmed. It was kind of annoying to see patterns you couldn't pick. The gaming depth options overwhelmed me at first, and I still haven't touched the rapid-trigger settings. But that same adjustability is what let me fix the sensitivity and put my keys back where I wanted them, so it isn't only for gamers. If you're a serious gamer, the depth is here. If you're a typist like me, it's a solid, good-looking board you can actually bend to fit how you work.High quality, no question, and now it's dialed in to me. I'm keeping it.

Wired-only hall effect board plagued by limitations and conflicting design

Attack Shark has the kinds of products that excite me with their potential but in the case of this R98HE, left me very disappointed. In the past year magnetic/hall effect keyboards have gone through a huge growth in the space with amazing evolution in features, newfound affordability and better design, but this shark dives so far below the surface it is the least favorite of my now growing fleet of dozens of this type of board. The most obvious is that this is wired-only, when most boards in 2026 have gone tri-mode; as an early adopter of the tech I know well that this is due to the power required to do the constant polling to monitor the switches at all times - but this has been overcome by other brands. Still, there are ways to leverage continuous power to its fullest is you are forcing users to be tied to a wire anyway. The most obvious which is to have robust lighting that includes a LIT REACTIVE mode where the board is illuminated at all times, and produces visual lighting effects when a key is pressed - this board can't do that, at least not out of the box. Even my MCHOSE Jet 75, my first HE keyboard obtained when this type of board first became affordable and was wired only understood this and had some of the most amazing lit reactive effects I've seen. This board has some of the most limited and unattractive lighting I've seen in any mechanical or HE keyboard and even the SPEED at which the effects are played is puzzlingly SLOW in how they animate as if this thing has an inferior chip in it or something. To top it off, while the ad copy says you can program key-driven lighting in its upper box bar, this seems to be a mistranslation and you can't actually do anything key related with it whatsoever which would have been a nice compromise if I could have programmed it to make the lightbox reactive while leaving the main keyboard on at all times, but there's no reactive mode for the lightbox. On the color variation I got, the plastic covering the lightbox is green colored and while it goes with the physical coloring of the keys, it contaminates the RGB lighting and makes everything green-tinted, affecting customization. As for the rest of the keyboard, I don't like the layout as it makes puzzling decisions and wastes a ton of space; there's at least 3 keys worth of space wasted at the top F keys row with a space between ESC and F1, and a giant nonfunctional logo sticker that doesn't even light up, yet there is a side wheel for volume/mute which allows for so much more key space - yet they squandered it on a nonfunctional logo instead of giving it more keys or a LCD screen. Worse yet, there is PgUp/PgDown but only HOME and no End, so they really could have used the extra space to give it that but they didn't and this is infuriating for a 98% board when I have even 75% boards that have all 4. There are a few things I do like about the keyboard in that it provides a right angle USB cable to reduce port wear which I appreciate, and also a spiral cord option that has a detachable aviator-style breakaway, something I rarely see. I also like the cute shark stickers they include which add personality to the brand and your customization options. I found the typing on the board to be smooth and responsive and I like the thocky-ness of the switches despite being a tactile main, I thought these sounded very nice. Unfortunately the other design choices hijack the good things that are here and I'd be hard-pressed to use this over other choices. For the $60-$70 asking price, its not horrible for a 98% hall effect board but I expect these should be MUCH cheaper if they aren't already due to the wired limitation, so maybe this could still be worthwhile if the price drops once tri mode HE keyboards cause these wired-only boards to become completely obsolete.

Surprisingly Premium HE Keyboard With Excellent Feel

The ATTACK SHARK R98 HE Wired RT 8K keyboard has turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve added to my desk in a while. There’s a lot to like here, and most of it becomes obvious the moment you pick it up. The weight is fantastic — far heavier than my previous board — and that heft gives it a planted, stable feel that keeps it from sliding around during use. It feels premium in a way many keyboards in this price range simply don’t.The size hits a perfect middle ground. It’s not a full‑size board, but it’s definitely larger and more comfortable than the mini keyboard I was using before (impact being that, like my mini, some keys are in weird places - delete and insert in particular here). It fits my desk layout without overwhelming it, giving me more usable key real estate while still keeping things tidy. This is my first hall‑effect keyboard, and I was genuinely surprised by how satisfying the key action is. I’m a longtime Cherry switch fan, but this board has a smooth, responsive feel that’s enjoyable for both typing and gaming. The cabling options are another thoughtful touch. The included coiled cable looks great and works well, though I’ll probably switch to the straight cable for a cleaner permanent setup. Having both options included is a nice bonus.Where the keyboard stumbles is in its software and RGB ecosystem. The lighting is functional but limited — only preset patterns, adjustable through the Attack Shark software. It doesn’t integrate with SignalRGB or any other unified RGB platform, which is a big annoyance for me since the rest of my setup is synced. The other drawback is that all customization requires the OEM software or their web app (additional drivers and permissions). It works surprisingly well, but it means no QMK, VIA, or other open firmware tools. While not a show stopper, I am surprised by the number of premium keyboards that don't aim for wider ecosystem compatibility from the onset.Despite those limitations, the keyboard itself is excellent. It looks great, feels great, and types beautifully. Even with the RGB and software constraints, it’s likely to become my long‑term daily driver. If the ecosystem were more open, this would easily be a 5‑star board — but as it stands, it’s a very strong 4‑star keyboard with outstanding hardware and a few software quirks.

I love carbon fiber stuff, so I had to have this keyboard, and wanted to see how it was. And I’m glad I did try it out because the build quality is really solid that it has a good bit of weight to it, and the carbon Fiber composite design is really nice looking which the top of the shell has all on it which has a nice texture also, and the keycaps also is made the same with carbon fiber which has a frosted look when the backlighting is off or even on which gives a very cool look! The lightbar is amazing looking. it is very bright and very colorful and can be clearly seen even though it is on the rear of the keyboard that it shines on my desk or anything that is in front of it, and it can also be set to a solid color or effects on the keyboard or on the web software, even the backlighting is pretty bright and has a lot of colors. I also like the sideways volume knob which I can use it with my finger or turn it as a normal volume knob and it's made out of metal. And for a magnetic switch keyboard, sure it is all about gaming on it which it is great for, but as a normal daily keyboard also it does that very good also, the linear Ice Shark switches are really smooth and has a nice clacking sound so it is not a silent keyboard by any means but it still sounds great in my opinion, after all I am always wearing my headphones anyways. For rapid trigger I never use that on my magnetic switch keyboards but it does work when set on the web software, but I always do set the key travel which I set all the keys to 1.0mm, and I like to use 2K polling rate instead of 8k because I just don't need any higher. Now for connectivity, it is simple just plug in the included USB cable, It would've been nice if it was wireless and had a big battery also, but being only a wired keyboard is fine with me, plus the lightbar probably would use a lot of battery anyways that it wouldn't be worth it.Overall, it is a cool keyboard that looks great with the carbon fiber design, and gaming on it or just as a everyday keyboard it feels great. The value is also good in my opinion what this keyboard has to offer, so it does get a big thumbs up from me, I love it👍

This ATTACK SHARK R98 HE 8KHz Wired Hall Effect Gaming Keyboard has a very sleek feel to it. The carbon fiber gives it a visual and tactile upgrade. It has bright RGB lights that scroll across both the keys and the top bar. There are 2 built-in keyboard stands so prop it up. These hot-swappable keys have magnetic switches, and I love the feel and sound of the keys when typing and gaming. This is a USB-C plug to old school USB cabled keyboard that is easy plug and play. I'm big on RGB when gaming on my PC, and these lighting colors do not disappoint. It's a solid gaming keyboard. The carbon fiber makes it unique.

This keyboard is impressive, with the carbon-fiber top shell being its biggest selling point. The rear RGB lighting is a close second and adds a distinctive glow to the desk setup. The layout takes some time to get used to, but it makes the keyboard more compact without sacrificing the numpad. The RGB lighting is bright and attractive, although that brightness is also the board’s biggest weakness. In a dark environment, the lighting can glare through the clear keycaps and make the legends difficult to see—sometimes it feels like you’re typing into the void. The lighting effects can also become distracting, especially when paired with the transparent keycaps. While I appreciate the keycaps’ transparency and carbon-fiber-inspired appearance, I eventually replaced them with a sublimated set. The new keycaps looked even better, allowing the RGB glow to shine from underneath without washing out the legends. If you plan to use this keyboard in a dim room, replacing the stock keycaps may be worth considering. The switches provide firm feedback, and the keyboard feels responsive. I’m probably the least qualified person to evaluate its competitive response times—I still get destroyed in every PvP match I join—but with an 8K polling rate, I can no longer blame the keyboard. At least now I have to blame my connection, lag, or lack of skill.I haven’t downloaded the companion app yet, so I may be missing additional customization options. The keyboard also includes around ten lighting commands, but learning and remembering them takes some practice. Without the manual, it’s easy to forget the shortcuts, and replacement keycaps obviously won’t include a reminder.Overall, this is a stylish and capable RGB keyboard. The rear lighting adds ambiance to the desk while reflecting a soft glow toward the user, and the lighting effects themselves are impressive. The compact layout, retained numpad, firm feedback, and Hall Effect switches make it practical as well as visually appealing.I’d recommend it to anyone who prioritizes aesthetics, compactness, and easy everyday use. However, if you have trouble reading heavily backlit legends—or plan to type in near-dark conditions—you may want to replace the transparent keycaps. Whether the 8K polling rate will turn you into an FPS champion is still undecided, but it’s certainly a compelling feature and a good selling point. I think its a good value for all the provided features.

I have several ATTACK SHARK keyboards, including another one of their wired mechanical models, and the R98 HE is one of the better budget options I have used from the brand. At around $80, it offers very good value for money for a nearly full-size 98% keyboard with a complete number pad, dedicated arrow keys, and essentially all of the normal keys I use on a full-size board. The layout feels familiar, and there are no strangely positioned keys that I accidentally hit. The Shift keys are normal sizes, and I did not have to relearn anything just to type normally. One thing worth pointing out is the ATTACK SHARK logo area at the upper right. From some of the listing pictures, it can look like it might be an LCD display, but it is not. There is, however, a CNC aluminum media knob in that same upper-right area, which is a unique location and works well there. The lightbox along the top edge fully illuminates and can be customized along with the rest of the RGB lighting. Its default configuration is a faster pulse, which can get a bit annoying in the dark, but it definitely makes it stand out. The carbon fiber case is just plastic and not actual carbon fiber, but it is another unique design that goes well with the theme. The Hall Effect magnetic switches are the main reason to consider the R98 HE over a conventional mechanical keyboard. Actuation can be adjusted, and the Rapid Trigger functionality is designed for gaming, especially first-person shooters and other games where quick, repeated inputs matter. ATTACK SHARK also advertises an 8000 Hz polling rate and very low latency. I am not going to claim I can personally distinguish fractions of a millisecond, but the keyboard feel is very responsive, and the adjustable actuation gives you much more control than a typical budget mechanical board. The typing experience is also better than I expected for the price. The magnetic switches feel smooth, and the internal dampening helps keep the noise level from becoming too hollow or clacky. It is not a silent keyboard, but the sound is cleaner and more controlled than many inexpensive larger boards I have used. The PBT keycaps also help with the overall quality and give the board a slightly more textured, durable feel.Configuration is handled through a web-based driver rather than software that needs to be installed. ATTACK SHARK includes the QR code and web address in the instructions. From there you can adjust Rapid Trigger behavior, actuation points, macros, key assignments, RGB effects, and other keyboard settings. I like this approach because it keeps another piece of configuration software off the computer while still giving you plenty of control over the board. The case is still mostly plastic, so this is not going to have the construction of a much more expensive all-metal keyboard. That said, the larger R98 size gives it enough weight to feel substantial and planted on the desk instead of light or flimsy. The materials are clearly chosen to hit a lower price point, but the quality still feels appropriate for the cost and nothing about it comes across as especially cheap during normal use.For someone who wants Hall Effect gaming features but still needs a number pad and a familiar near-full-size layout, the ATTACK SHARK R98 HE makes a lot of sense. You are giving up some refinement in the case materials, and the logo area is not a display the listing photos might initially suggest, but neither issue affects the actual performance. Considering the responsive keyboard feel, good typing experience, adjustable magnetic switches, low noise level for this style of board, customizable lighting, web-based controls, and substantial weight, the R98 HE offers strong value for money at roughly $80.

It's very obvious that this Keyboard is built mainly for looks, as in my opinion it looks fantastic with a real carbon fiber top plate, faux carbon fiber keycaps that are completely shine through and a massive light bar on the top, all of which can be customized in either a dedicated software or via the online configurator. With its looks aside, which, as I said, are its focus The keyboard itself and day-to-day usage is what I would consider above average but not amazing. I've used cheaper keyboards before that feel better and sound better, but those keyboards We were not full-sized and did not have a real carbon fiber top shell. So it's obvious they had more money to play with in terms of layering and keycaps, but in day-to-day use it is more than acceptable and I'd say if you don't already own a large collection of keyboards in the first place, you will be more than happy using this every single day, my opinion is just a little colored due to my previous experiences.Getting it set up is incredibly easy and plug-and-play. If you wish to use it right out of the box, you don't need to change anything. You simply plug it in and use it as it is, but if you wish to change the RGB settings, change the actuation distance of each key and set up more advanced features like rapid trigger, all that needs to be done in software, which as I said before is quite polished nowadays. The other feature that this keyboard has is the aluminum volume knob that can both control the volume up and down and can be pressed in to mute all audio with everyday usage aside, what I was really impressed is the stiffness as due to the fact that carbon fiber is relatively expensive, the bottom half of this keyboard is the same as every other cheap keyboard out there, being plastic, but due to the thick carbon fiber on top, it is still incredibly stiff and only proves the fact that it's actual carbon fiber and not just a plastic disguised carbon fiber. So as long as you're willing to limit your expectations of it not being fully made of carbon fiber, you will definitely not be disappointed, as what in use the real carbon fiber and the carbon fiber looking keycaps complement each other quite well, especially when the underglow is set to one of its more intricate patterns, allowing the keyboard to look, in my opinion, amazing. The price is definitely a sticking point at $90, but that's mainly due to the fact that again this is a larger keyboard and is partially made of carbon fiber. And I've seen other models with similar build at far higher prices. So if you're looking to get into more exotic materials or simply like the look of it, I'd say $90 is a relatively good price, but do keep an eye out as Attack Shark peripherals do go on sale quite often, and I wouldn't be surprised if this drops to 80 or 70 in the future, but I do definitely recommend it, especially if you want a numpad, as most gaming keyboards nowadays completely negate it.

I found this gaming keyboard to be nice! The body feels substantial but not heavy. The keys are linear and smooth with that fantastic mechanical feel you would expect. The switches are probably close to a 'red' in terms of linear feel but maybe just a bit heavier which feels really good for fast smooth typing. I found no issues with input lag and you can probably feel 'competitive' with wireless on this keyboard while gaming. The keycaps feels like PBT which is to say they feel like very nice quality and durable plastic. The RGB works well and is not overly bright or distracting and yet bright enough to give a fun impression. Overall, this looks and feels like a mid-range rather than entry-level gaming keyboard and most users will probably be reasonably happy with this if you don't mind going with a smaller brand.

Excellent mechanical keyboard with very fast response

The ATTACK SHARK R98HE is a seriously capable keyboard for gaming and everyday typing. The switches feel extremely responsive, the compact layout still keeps the important keys accessible, and the RGB looks clean without overwhelming the design. The rapid-trigger style response is especially noticeable in games where quick key resets matter. Build quality feels solid for the price and the keyboard has a much more premium feel than I expected.

Solid and fun

I ordered this because I've never had a mechanical gaming keyboard before, and wanted to try one. Having used it, I find that I like it. This one seems to fit in the mid range of keyboards; nicer than your average basic board but not as feature-rich as $100+ enthusiast boards. It feels solid, way more substantial than the aforementioned basic boards. The keys make a pleasant sound without the loudness of mechanical keyswitches. It has separate and selectable lighting effects for the keys and the top light bar. It includes both a regular USB cable and a coiled cable, the latter of which is useful for reducing cable mess (however, even though the keyboard has only a USB-C port, both included cables are C to A and no C to C cable is included). Even the "black ink" print on the case and keys is visually appealing, giving it a sort of hydro-dipped or mineral-like look.My only complaint regards the navigation keys. I understand that a normal navigation key layout is sometimes sacrificed for compactness, and I think the size of this keyboard is good, but the layout of these keys (specifically, the positioning of the Delete key) and the lack of a PrtSc key mean this keyboard is a little less suitable for business.Despite this, for under $70, I think this keyboard is a solid or even great value, and I hope it lasts, because I like using it.
